Meditate: to focus one's mind for a period of time.
Covering classical mosaic applications, techniques and designs.
This class is for beginners to advanced students. Students may choose to work from a study of a classical mosaic, or create a mosaic mandala. The idea is to start with the basic principles of mosaic set out by the ancients and to examine those techniques in a simple, focused manner. Day 1 of the class will be a brief introduction to classical mosaics, tools, materials, adhesives and substrates. Students will choose a design to work with, look at samples of materials, choose colors and decide what mosaic method they would prefer to focus on. As each student will vary in their choice of design, materials and substrates, the classroom will be a lively mix of opportunities for exponential learning. Just show up on the first day of class and enjoy the process. You will be given all you need in order to proceed. Choose from supplied designs: - Detail fragments from classical mosaics or, - Mandala designs Choose a material for your project: - we will look at sample boards of materials such as unglazed porcelain, glass tiles, natural stone and marble, smalti, and stained glass.
